Spending time with God causes us to reflect His nature and satisfies a deep longing inside of us to be like our Creator as the psalmist writes:
“I shall be satisfied when I awake in your likeness.” Psalm 17:15
As believers, we are called to Christlikeness in everything we do and Jesus gave us the greatest example of how to live our lives for Him in serving others.
“The greatest among you will be your servant.” Matthew 23:11
Jesus lived the ultimate life of service. We see this illustrated as he washes the disciples’ feet, heals the sick, and feeds the multitudes.
In scripture, we also see that Jesus spent a lot of time alone in prayer to the Father (Matthew 14:23). The more time he spent in prayer, the more he reflected the heart of the Father.
John 5:19 tells us: “I tell you truth, the son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing.”
Jesus reflected the heart of the Father living a life of service to others. Serving others is a reflection of God’s love in the earth. We too, should let our lives be a reflection of God’s love by serving others. The more time that we spend with the Father in prayer, the more we learn of Him and therefore, reflect His nature.
This week, seek for ways your life can minister to others. In prayer, discover the unique gifts, talents, and abilities that you have been given to reflect His love.
3 Important Points to Consider
Meditate on the Jesus’ words in Luke 22. Rediscover what it means to be great and satisfied in His likeness.
“A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus said to them, ‘The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.’” Luke 22:24-27
How is your life a reflection of God’s love?
In what ways can you serve others with the gifts that He has given you? Take time to examine your life and note the ways that God has used you to serve others.
Receive wisdom from God to live a life that reveals His likeness.
Ask God how you can be a reflection of His love to others today. Be watchful and listening for opportunities to genuinely serve others with who He made you to be. Write down these moments to reflect on further.
