Raise your hand if you grew up watching Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. If you didn’t, you missed out. Sorry. He was the best!
And, this June 8th, we can all take a trip down memory lane to that iconic living room set. Coming to select theaters is a new documentary about beloved TV host Fred Rogers, who captured the hearts of audiences (kids and adults alike) for more than three decades.
From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom), Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is touted as a “portrait of a man whom we all think we know. This emotional and moving film takes us beyond the zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination” (from Focus Features).
Showing love to others was a big part of Mister Rogers’ show. It’s his kind heart that attracted us. And it was a heart that loved Jesus (did you know he was an ordained minister?!).
How deep does this documentary get into Mister Rogers’ personal faith? I don’t know (haven’t seen the film yet). But, if the two clips (the official trailer and this first behind-the-scenes look) released recently are any indication, this film is gonna be a good one to see.
