Whenever I have an amazing day, a challenging day seems to immediately follow. Ever been there?
One particularly bad day had me trying to “talk” myself out of my mental predicament as I drove around town:
“Christine, why can’t you be better?”
“Christine, shake it off!”
“Christine, you’ll never change.”
All that turned into:
“Jesus, what’s wrong with me?”
Then and there, I decided the best thing to shut down the mind battle was to put on some worship music. The Lord inhabits the praises of His people, right?
Hillsong’s “One Desire” came on. I was like, “Yes! OK, Jesus. Be my one desire.” I was singing SO LOUD, to really get it into my head that He’s my one desire and to let those other things fall away.
Then, the strangest thing happened. I didn’t touch my phone, or any other buttons in my car, and the song switched. Just like that. I was a little thrown off, especially since I was singing at the top of my lungs. But, I heard a few notes and instantly recognized the song.
Do you ever have those moments when a song completely connects and resonates with your soul? It’s like how your body feels when you step into a hot tub. You immediately relax. Hearing “Call It Grace” by Unspoken had the same immediate effect.
These powerful lyrics sank in and I wept. I truly felt like I was being held by grace.
In that moment, Jesus gave me a sweet reminder: “Christine, my child, we are in this together. You cannot do this journey alone. No matter how good your intentions may be. You need me and you need my grace.”
“Let us then approach God’s throne of GRACE with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” – Hebrews 4:16
