JR. has served as the teaching pastor at Catalyst Church in Dallas, TX, since 2014. His book, Empathy for the Devil (InterVarsity Press), asks what we can learn from putting ourselves in the shoes of the Bible's worst villains, including Cain, Delilah, Judas, and even Satan. JR. is a prolific podcastor. He co-hosts the StoryMen, which explores the intersection of faith and pop culture, In All Things Charity, a Wesleyan Feminist theology podcast and Don't Split Up!, a horror film review show. He also reviews films for NorvilleRogers.com. JR. earned his Bachelor's at Southwest Baptist University (2003) and his Master's in Religious Studies at the University of Missouri, Columbia (2006). JR. and his wife, Amanda, love to explore new places, find new foods, and try to cook it at home. His favorite Saturday is either smoking some meats for a party or watching his wife skate with Assassination City Roller Derby League. They are on twin life-long quests for the world's greatest BBQ and tacos. Moving to Texas has been a boon for both quests.
