I remember growing up in church and not understanding the point of evangelism. Couldn’t God just show up to people in dreams? I had heard stories of that happening and thought God didn’t need me to help him in that department.
I had no idea the glorious call we have as believers to spread the Gospel and shine.
When I was 18 years old, I went to a missions school at YWAM (Youth With A Mission) and my whole mindset and perspective changed. I will never forget it. Someone was teaching on the love of God — how beautiful, merciful, and all-consuming His love is. I finally understood that there was NO GREATER love than this — the love of Jesus. It was as if I had never understood John 3:16 until that very moment, and the scales fell off my eyes. I wept.
I finally understood why Paul says, “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all…”
How could I stay silent about what I had just learned and experienced?
Suddenly, I realized being driven by the love of God is much different than being driven by rules, performance, or a sense of striving. I now understood the Great Commission and why Jesus left us with this beautiful task.
He says to his disciples in Matthew 28:19-20, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Wow! What a clear and beautiful call from Jesus to us.
As you think about your call as a follower of Jesus, think about the life of Jesus and the commands He left us. Jesus stepped down from his heavenly throne, put on flesh, showed us the kingdom, and became the perfect sacrifice so we could live. This is GOOD news!
Let us not just love in speech, but in action. Let us be the generation that is so convinced of the truth of who God is, we cannot help but tell others about Him as we are driven by His love. As the Father sent His only Son, Jesus is sending us! He is sending us to the broken, the unreached, the universities, high schools, and so many more places.
John 20:21-22 says, “Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit…’”
