“So now, what can I ever give back to God to repay Him for the blessings He’s poured out on me? I will lift up his cup of salvation and praise Him extravagantly for all that He’s done for me.” Psalm 116:12-13 (TPT)
What can I give back to God for the goodness He has poured out on me? I will praise His name. I will lift up the cup of salvation. In The Message version of Psalm 116, Eugene Peterson uses the word “toast.” He says, “I’ll lift high the cup of salvation—a toast to God!” How fitting!
A toast is usually given when a group of people are gathered for a celebration to bring honor and praise to someone. Standing in the courts of the King, if we were to give a toast to God, what would we all be thinking? In that moment what would we, the children of God, say to our Savior?
What if that was the banner over our lives today? What if that was the song we sang in our car, in our dorm room, and at the grocery store? A reminder that our God has overcome sin, shame, and the grave and as a result we can live in victory! And out of the overflow of a grateful heart we freely lay all God has given us back at His feet.
This is our redemption song!
