Devotional
Today, February 29th, is a special day. It’s a day that only rolls around every four years. It’s an oddity in our system that quickly comes and is quickly forgotten. But on this February 29th, let’s take a moment to stop and inquire of the Lord. Let’s press in to what his heart would hold for us on this odd and special day. Let’s receive a revelation directly from him that would have the power to impact not only today, but the four years to come.
Where do you see yourself four years from now? What do you think you will be doing? How do you imagine your life? What excites you? What scares you? Take a moment to envision yourself four years from now and take stock of your emotions.
In Jeremiah 29:11, God makes us an amazing promise. Scripture says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”
The will of God for you today leads you to his perfect plans for tomorrow. And your willingness to follow him right now, in this moment, has the power to impact the trajectory of your entire life. Life is a series of steps, each as important as the last. And the Holy Spirit is your perfect guide, capable and willing to lead you into the fullness of God’s heart for you.
Whatever the situation, wherever you find yourself, you must trust that your heavenly Father has only good things for you. You must allow his goodness to be the lens through which you see the whole of your life. You must allow his promise to “prosper you and not to harm you” to ring in your ears no matter what the world says. Truth comes from one source alone, and that’s your heavenly Father.
Whatever the next four years hold, you can trust that your heavenly Father will be there for you. In fact he is there right now. His love and grace know no bounds. His wonderful plans won’t be shaken by the state of the world. He’s not surprised by your circumstances.
Take a moment to envision the next four years again, but this time through the filter of God’s goodness. What could he accomplish in and through you if you would devote yourself to him fully? What would life look like if you centered the next four years around communing with him?
Take time in guided prayer to run to your heavenly Father with your past, present and future. And receive the wonders of his grace that you might rest in his abundant goodness both today and in the four years to come.
Prayer
1. Meditate on Jeremiah 29:11. Allow the truth of God’s promise to become a lens by which you see your life and world around you.
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” Jeremiah 29:11
2. Where do you need hope today? In what circumstance or fear do you need a revelation of God’s plans “to prosper you and not to harm you?”
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
3. Take some time to see your life through the lens of God’s promises. Allow his hope and goodness into your circumstances. Ask God to speak identity and hope over you as you take some time to rest in his love.
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” 1 John 4:18
Go…
Romans 8:37-39 says, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Whatever the years in front of you hold, know that God says you are more than a conqueror. You share in the divine destiny of fellowship with him. No one and no thing can rob you of your inheritance in Jesus. May your face be set like flint, and may you run into the promises of God laid out before you.
